Jannis Hare - Artist Statement

IMG_5016.JPG

Painting pictures is something I have always done. Growing up in Banff, love  of the wild landscape grew with me and I chose to record my emotional response with an artist's brush. Since the age of 12 I have carried a sketchbook and camera across scree slopes and over fallen logs on my travels along the trails.

My style ranges from impressionistic acrylic, oil and watercolour landscapes, to detailed portrayals of wild flowers. Like my physical journey, my artistic exploration is one of wonderment and spiritual involvement. After many years of looking, I do not grow tired of painting familiar scenes. Each new
painting is an experience of discovery. I wish to share these places with the viewer and invite you to stop and look more closely. Through my paintings I encourage appreciation of the wild places and a realization for the importance of their preservation.
