Dawn Saunders Dahl - Artist Statement
Based in the picturesque town of Canmore, Alberta, Dawn strives to capture the innate beauty of landscapes and portraits. Alongside her studio practice, she is well-versed in arts administration, playing a pivotal role in nurturing and showcasing artists and projects, locally and nationally.
Dawn Saunders Dahl is a passionate advocate for artists and Indigenous arts communities in Alberta. A Métis Nation of Alberta member, she explores her ancestry through art, history, and advocacy. Her creative practice at Listen Studios in Canmore reflects themes of land, identity, and memory, using various mediums. With two Fine Arts degrees, she has led significant public art initiatives, including The Works Art & Design Festival’s Indigenous Art Program and projects at the Edmonton Arts Council. Currently, she holds roles at the Whyte Museum, Galerie Cite, and Ottawa’s Adisoke library project while serving on multiple arts boards. Committed to reconciliation and fostering artistic communities, she continues to deepen her understanding of her heritage and cultivate meaningful connections between land, culture, and history.
