With her mother, older sister and brother all being artists, Catharine grew up with an interest in art. She was given her first set of oil paints and an easel at about the age of 5, painting still life groupings which her mother would set up for her. She also joined them in plein air painting in various locations around Quebec. Her interest then switched to photography, with the gift of a Brownie box camera at the age of 7. As an adult, she continued her love of photography by taking a Certificate in Photography from Concordia University in Montreal, as well as numerous courses in Photoshop. Over the years, she has taken thousands of photos, particularly during her many travels overseas and throughout North America.
After retirement in 2003, Catharine moved to Canmore and rekindled her love of painting when taking watercolour classes from Donna Jo Massie. After about 3 years, she branched out into other media, taking numerous workshops in acrylics, mixed media, collage, monoprinting, etc. She often bases paintings on her photographs or combines photographs in collages.
Catharine has been a member of the Canmore Art Guild since 2005 and was on its Board in 2011-2013.
