Brenda Kelly- Artist Statement

I combine photography and painted pieces into complex, contemplative digital collages. My intent is to create an enigmatic experience for the viewer that encourages them to look through the layers and into the depth of the work, to see beyond the initial photographic subject. I bring intrigue, surprise and a bit of visual chaos to my art. 

The inspiration for each piece includes a combination of landscapes, human figures, textures and earth elements that I blend digitally with other photos of my watercolours, acrylics or drawings. I am most passionate and driven when I explore multiple assembled works on a specific theme. “Wild Horses” is such a project that combines photos of the feral horses near Sundre, Alberta, with collage elements, wild flowers, river beds, the forest floor and bits of poetry. My collages are printed as small as 4-inch x 6-inch art cards, enlarged up to 4-foot x 6-foot wall prints or anything in between.
